The Firework Project was initially formed in September 2021 by a group of Year 11 students at the Chinese International School, with the aim of allowing children of all backgrounds enrich themselves in activities outside of the school curriculum through the guidance of fellow students who wish to share their expertise and experiences. Since then, we have established numerous meaningful partnerships and have been engaging in various activities with the purpose of spreading passion.
Our types of activities can be split into 4 main streams: sport, art, linguistics and STEM. We believe that it is absolutely essential for children to explore and pursue their passions, because passion and hope is what drives us forward in life. Furthermore, the 4 main facets of our activities have been proven to directly link to future career possibilities, and thus we believe that it is essential to democratise the opportunity to pursue them.
Create a more cohesive society fuelled by care and compassion for one another
Empower the youth to integrate better into the community
Increase volunteer hours within student bodies
Connect students from different schools across HK
Make community service activities accessible and convenient to apply for
Hong Kong has long been a city with a diverse socioeconomic background, directly attributing to the staggering poverty rates and a highly pressurised environment which we have all grown acclimated to. More than 1 in 5 Hong Kongers live in poverty, with many more facing all kinds of issues: mental illnesses, discrimination, and physical disability. Due to being preoccupied with the many difficulties that this demanding modern world presents to us, these setbacks largely hinder many people’s abilities to positively contribute to bettering our society.
As the old saying goes, everyone is born the same; however, it is their experiences that shape them. Whilst we recognize that equal education in Hong Kong for all is implausible, the bare minimum should be for children to have the opportunity to pursue their passions in school, no matter their socioeconomic status.
Unfortunately this is not the case in Hong Kong. Given the densely populated nature of parts of the city plagued by wealth disparity, it is very difficult for children there to discover, let alone express, their passions. Yet this problem is a problem of accessibility rather than one of availability. There are many facilities available in wealthier districts of the city for children in need to use, but the main issue stems from the lack of a link between these children and the facilities. Thus we hope to address and tackle this issue.
In order to cultivate passion in the young minds, we are providing weekly classes in these 7 areas
